Ariane van Dievoet, a designer and sculptor, creates pieces from scrap materials to highlight their texture and form.
Specializing in the reuse of materials, she combines traditional and digital techniques to craft objects and furniture from scraps of wood, blue stone, marble, mirror shards, and more.
A bachelor’s degree in interior and spatial design from Chelsea College of Art in London and a master’s degree specializing in adaptive reuse from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the United States laid the foundation for her specialization. Ariane van Dievoet began her career in Brooklyn, where she founded AVANDI in 2014.
In 2018, she returned to Brussels, where she specializes in sustainable design and digital tools. In 2019, she won the ELLE Deco Uptown Design Award for her collection created from offcuts sourced from the Obumex workshops.
In 2020, she began a collaboration with metalworker Didier Henry, which resulted in a series of sculptures made from brass and stone offcuts, entitled ‘Fusions’.
Since 2021, Ariane van Dievoet has been passing on her expertise to students at the CAD, where she teaches courses in product design and sustainable design and technology.
Press
“Fragments, flaws, and fissures are often seen as unsightly, but van Dievoet proves otherwise. Instead of discarding these parts, she transforms them into the driving force of her practice, pushing her to create design that is both inspiring and sustainable.”
“Ariane van Dievoet is part of a new generation of young designers who are bringing craftsmanship, quality and a sense of luxury back to our lives.”
